Diwali is India’s biggest and most important festival of the year celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists. It began as a celebration associated with the final harvest before the winter, in which people seek divine blessings. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (diya or deepa)  that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects us from spiritual darkness.
