HARC Meeting: Emily Keller, Special Secretary of Overdose Response – Maryland

May 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

At our May meeting, we are excited to welcome Emily Keller as a special speaker!  Emily served as the first female Mayor of Hagerstown from 2020-2023 and was known for starting Washington Goes Purple, a collaborative effort to build awareness and prevention of the opioid epidemic in our county. In February, 2023, Emily was appointed by Governor Wes Moore to be the first Special Secretary of Overdose Response for the State of Maryland.  She will share an update with us on the work of the Office of Overdose Response.

Per the website, “Maryland’s Office of Overdose Response promotes collaboration across all state and local agencies working to address substance use and overdose in the state. We coordinate the inter-agency process to identify the state’s strategic priorities for preventing overdoses, and we work to promote the Governor’s policy agenda by focusing on programs and policies under five pillars: Prevention, Harm Reduction, Treatment, Recovery, and Public Safety.”

Join us for lunch and fellowship along with the presentation.  Location TBD. RSVP requested by Friday, May 9 at noon so we can get a count for lunch and other activities.  We anticipate a larger attendance, so your sign-up is especially appreciated.

HARC meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for lunch, except July and August, with an occasional evening meeting.  The location typically rotates among different houses of faith, giving different congregations and organizations an opportunity to host.
