Event Date: June 4, 2018 at 11:30 am Event Location: Black Rock Golf Course, 20025 Mt. Aetna Road, Hagerstown

The Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser for CASA, Inc., “Run, Jane, Run,” takes place on Monday, June 4 at the Black Rock Golf Course. Early Registration is now open and lasts until May 12. This is the largest annual fundraiser for “Citizens Assisting and Sheltering the Abused,” the Washington County Agency that assists victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse.  CASA, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit agency providing crisis intervention and shelter services for families who have experienced violence, sexual assault or abuse.  Funds are used to promote and educate the community regarding the complex issues facing those who experience domestic violence and abuse.

This year, CASA, Inc. marks its 40th year serving the County.  Executive Director, Vicki Sadehvandi, reminds the community that “Intimate partner violence occurs among the teens and youth of our community, as well as our elders.  Abusers may seem just fine in the public eye, but use a barrage of behaviors and intimidation to keep their intimate partners in their control and under their power.  Those facing abuse may feel they cannot leave or have choices in their life.  Escalation of the cycle of abuse takes place over time and can lead to injury and even death.  But there is help and hope.  CASA, Inc. responds to each and every call, and endeavors to bring the appropriate support to survivors and their families.”

Reports of Domestic abuse are in the news on a regular basis, affecting women and men from all walks of life.  CASA, Inc. provides an emergency hotline, shelter, legal and emotional aid, and a host of resources to help survivors begin a new life.  Many of these services are provided on a very reasonable sliding scale.  Each year, CASA, Inc., must raise over $20,000 in addition to grants, plus local, state, and federal aid.  In one year, CASA typically responds to over 22,000 calls on the 24-hour hotline (301- 739-8975, TTY 301-739-1012).  Over 500 individuals receive legal services.  Over 4000 bed nights are provided for women and children in the shelter. Over 400 persons take part in the Abuser Invention program at a 54% completion rate.  In addition, CASA, Inc. serves as a local educational resource for schools, colleges, businesses, houses of worship and clubs.  If your organization would like to hear more about CASA, Inc., call the office at 301-739-4990.

This year’s Golf Tournament is sponsored in part by Middletown Valley Bank, along with Eagle Elite, CertainTeed, Hadley Farms, Wright-Gardner Insurance, Capital Women’s Care, Twigg Cycles, Funkstown Tavern, Washington County Teacher’s Federal Credit Union, Bowman Hospitality, Buffalo Wild Wings, JLG Industries.   Outback Steakhouse is the lunch sponsor and Rik’s Café is the dinner sponsor.

Early Registration is now open and lasts until May 12.  Registration is $85 per person and includes driving range, greens fee, cart, lunch, beverages, dinner, awards and door prizes for each player.  Registration forms are available from and should be returned to CASA, Inc., 116 West Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD  21740, 301-790-0064.  Forms may be downloaded from the CASA, Inc. website.  After May 12, please contact JoAnne Papa for late registrations, $90, at 301-991-8839 or e-mail For more information, see the CASA, Inc.
