The CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Pov-erty) Hunger Walk, sponsored by the  Hagerstown Area Religious Council will be held Sunday, April 26, 2015 beginning at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Avenue. The walk raises money for Church World Service through donations collected by the walkers. CWS is an ecumenical Christian organization providing drinking wells, farming and irrigation assistance, education and vocational training and humanitarian aid all around the globe, including the United States. Emergency disaster relief aid in times of ma-jor natural disasters is also provided by CWS. 25% of all the money raised locally, comes back to our community and is distributed to local food pantries.

Winding through the neighborhoods and parks of the north end, the walk features local Praise bands, snacks and fun activities designed to educate about the effects of hunger. What a great way to shake off winter and enjoy the beautiful new Spring foliage and flowers! The goal this year is to raise $20,000 which will provide $5,000 for local food pantries. This is a realistic goal if more churches and groups participate. As member churches of HARC, please consider participating in the walk this year! So Spring forward and step out against hunger!
Promotional materials and donor envelopes for churches wishing to participate may be picked up and signed out at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Avenue, Hagerstown, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Enter the 15 Randolph Avenue doors and follow the CROP signs to materials. When you get your recruiter packet, please read it—there are many new things inside. The stickers, the logo, the posters and the brochures are all new. Your church may designate funds to a denominational charity and we will still receive credit and get 25% of that money back also. Anyone needing additional information may contact Jane Drawbaugh, Hagerstown Area CROP Coordinator,  by phone (301.797.0889) or email (

Please be sure to include your personal email address when you pick up materials (you may not get information quickly or at all if it is sent to your church). This is how Jane will check in with recruiters and churches and update you as the walk draws closer. Jane will not share your information.
