Mark Schoberg of Waynesboro, Pa., won the photo contest held in conjunction with the Holiday Tour of Historic Houses of Worship, which took place Dec. 26 at 16 places of worship, as well as the Miller House, in downtown Hagerstown.

His photo, called “Architecture to Altar,” was taken at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

The contest, in partnership with and support from the Washington County Arts Council, was a way to promote the 2017 tour and featured photos taken during the 2016 event. The winning picture will be used to create posters and promotional materials for the December tour.

A total of 18 photographers submitted 49 entries, which were rated by three judges.

Earning honorable mentions were Paige Cantner of Hagerstown for “Foot Steps,” taken at St. John’s Episcopal Church; Gary Janes of Gaithersburg, Md., with “St. Mark’s Christmas,” shot at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church; and Scott Cantner of Hagerstown for “Christmas Altar,” taken at Trinity Lutheran.
