11,000 books collected for children’s literacy efforts

Published September 25, 2018

More than 11,000 books were collected in August and September at over 50 locations throughout Washington County, MD for the Community Book Drive.  The books were sorted into age groups on the United Way’s Day of Caring, September 20, 2018 at the FedEx Ground warehouse. More than 50 volunteers helped from Rotary Club of Hagerstown, Smith Elliott Kerns, Fed ExGround, Otterbein United Methodist Church, Washington County Public Library, HARC, and Early Childhood Advisory Council.

The books will go to organizations working with vulnerable children to help with childhood literacy in our community, as well as directly to families who cannot afford to buy books.

Thank you to the following organizations for collecting books this year!
