Getting to know St. Ann Haiti outreach

In 1997, St. Ann Catholic church started a parish partnership with St. Claire in Dessalines, Haiti. Our two parishes serve each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.  St. Ann parish is one of over 20 parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore that is partnered with parishes in the Diocese of Gonaives in Haiti. These partnerships feed thousands of malnourished school children and help Haitian communities “help themselves.”

The St Ann-St Claire partnership uses a school-based feeding program to prevent children from becoming malnourished and to promote education.

We believe that education is the way out of poverty.

  • We feed 600 elementary school children every school day through the “Littlest Angels” nutrition program: $60 feeds a child for an entire school year.
  • We provide tuition assistance to some of the poorest children of St. Claire.
  • We teach water purification, sanitation, first aid and hygiene to children and adults.

We believe in self sustainability and self sufficiency.

  • We support a self-sustaining agricultural program to help St. Claire feed its own students.
  • We support a clean water project managed by local communities.

We believe in communicating and witnessing.

  • Adults and teens travel to Haiti to lead a yearly Summer Camp for the children of St. Claire.
  • Our parishes have exchanged prayer chains, prayer requests and participated together in a retreat about Gospel values.
  • The pastor of St Claire makes regular visits to St. Ann.

Most of all, we support each other through faith and prayer.

We hope to expand the circle of support to St. Claire in Haiti to other churches and schools in Washington County. If you would like to know more about St. Ann Haiti Outreach, please call St. Ann parish office at 301-733-0410 or email Agnes Supernavage at AgnesTS@aol.com

To learn more, come to the Lenten Soup Supper at St. Ann on Friday, March 28.

Mass is at 6 PM in the chapel. A meal of soup and bread will be served at 6:30 PM. We will serve a delicious Haitian soup and present a program about the St. Ann-St. Claire partnership and the Littlest Angels feeding program.
