Lessons and Carols for the Advent Season

Event Date: December 9, 2018 at 9:00 am Event Location: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church presents a celebration of Lessons and Carols for the Advent Season on Sunday, December 9 at the 9 AM and 11 AM services. Advent is a season of preparation for Christmastide, and lasts from December 2 – 23.  Blue hangings are used to honor the Virgin Mary. The 9 AM service is child-friendly and involves the children in setting up the Christmas Crèche, complete with Mary and Joseph, animals, shepherds, sheep and cows, and the wise men in the windows, on their way to the manger.  Only Baby Jesus is missing, to be put in place on Christmas Eve.  The 11 AM service uses a liturgy developed by Salisbury Cathedral in England where lessons from the Old Testament prophecies are paired with New Testament fulfillment.  The choir presents anthems and special carols for congregational singing are included.  St. Mark’s is located at 18313 Lappans Road, just off the Sharpsburg Pike, south of Hagerstown.
