Event Date: December 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm Event Location: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lappans, will host an open house of the Historic Church, Sunday, December 16, from 1-5 PM, along with other South County Churches. Dr. Emilie Amt, Historian, author, and faculty member of Hood College, will be on hand to give tours including information about the African American History of St. Mark’s.  The balcony, once used as a slave gallery and now restored as a place of prayer and pilgrimage; and the historic cemetery, featuring the graves of African American Ancestors, will be open for viewing.  Dr. Amt will provide interpretive materials and displays including the original Parish records where the baptisms and marriages of “slaves” and “colored” are included.  Recently, St. Mark’s installed a new stained glass window in the historic church sacristy, in honor of the Warfield family and all those enslaved by the founders.  The Church will be decorated for Christmas.  Ample parking is available in the back of the campus, located at 18313 Lappans Road, just off the Sharpsburg Pike.
