Having the Conversation: Shedding A Community Light on the Epidemic

This six week program is designed to provide valuable information about the Opiate Epidemic that is causing concerns for most communities, taking lives, and taxing our services and resources.  The program will provide testimonials from those who have faced addictions issues and have been able to move into recovery and lead a productive healthy life, with suggestions around how to emerge from active addictions.  This educational forum will provide opportunities to learn more about the issue of drug abuse as it relates to mental health issues.

Session Topics

February 13th, 2108 – Understanding the Opioid Epidemic
This session will provide background information, testimonial and a discussion around    the stigma of people in active addiction and those in recovery.

February 20th, 2018: Understanding the pharmacology of drugs
This session will include a discussion of street drugs vs. prescription medications. Terminology, abuse and testimonials will be included.

February 27th, 2018: Helping fix the epidemic
This session will highlight the tools being used such as harm reduction and preventative services, inpatient rehabilitation and long-term recovery.

March 6th, 2018: Recognizing the warning signs
This session is especially important for parents and grandparents to recognize warning signs and symptoms of drug misuse and abuse.

March 13th, 2018: What is being done to combat the issue
This session will focus on what is being done locally, statewide and nationally to help resolve the issue and bring about positive change.

March 20th, 2018: Everyone can play a part
In this session we will recap what we have learned and discuss how as a community we can get involved.
