“In looking at his own life with candor and hope, Robert Benson helps us look at our own. His words have the ring of truth”. – Frederick Buechner

“In ‘Punching Holes in the Dark,’ author Robert Benson helps us discover strength in the gifts of the Spirit and encourages us all to start punching holes—as hard as we can, as often as we can—to let the Light of the world sneak in”. – Abingdon Press Review

“Epiphany…a perfect time to let the Light shine on your post-Christmas doldrums.” – Bruce W, Barth

ROBERT BENSON  has spent his life writing and speaking about one thing: Paying attention for the everyday things that point us to the presence of the Holy in our lives. About our longing for home and community and a sense of belonging. About our practice and ritual and work and play and contemplation. About the way such things can be constant reminders of who we are and who we are to become.

He has published more than twenty books ranging from books on prayer and liturgy and spirituality and vocation to travel and gardening and baseball and the Rule of St. Benedict. They include Between the Dreaming and the Coming True, Living Prayer, In Constant Prayer, That We May Perfectly Love Thee, and his most recent work, Punching Holes in the Dark.

Critically acclaimed in publications as diverse as The New York Times, USA Today, Publishers’ Weekly, BookPage, Library Journal, The American Benedictine Review and Spirituality and Health, he is recognized for his lyrical, gentle, humorous writing and his quiet, humble, pointed insight into living contemplatively and prayerfully in the modern world.

He is a lifelong churchman, an alumnus of The Academy for Spiritual Formation, a parishioner at an Episcopal Cathedral, a member of The Friends of Silence & of the Poor, and was recently named a Living Spiritual Teacher by Spirituality & Practice.com. He teaches as adjunct faculty for The Academy for Spiritual Formation, and traveled the country for more than thirty years speaking at dozens of retreats, churches, writers’ conferences and workshops.
